Pyjamas, Neutrals and Attachment

by Zoey @ Good Googs on August 3, 2010

I couldn’t resist. While I was buying newborn clothes in the city on the weekend, I bought a few things for Riley as well. These PJs have little lady bugs all over them and say ‘Little Lady’ on the front. Yes, I’m completely taken in by such cuteness. It’s a sickness.

Given that Josh has a strong preference to not know whether the jellybean is a boy or a girl, I’m stuck with shopping for neutrals. Neutrals. I’ve never been one for neutrals. But if you’ve ever tried to shop for newborn neutrals it’s near impossible. Everything is in pink and blue. Everything. And white things generally have a girly feel about them too. So I spend the whole time trying to find anything green or yellow. Although I might have bought a couple of pink-ish things because I have a girl feeling about the jellybean.

On the night was away, Riley woke up at 2am and apparently it took Josh quite a bit to get her back to sleep and had to explain that I wasn’t home and I’d be back in the morning. It’s a couple days later and I think she’s still adjusting. She’s gone back to sleeping in our bed for the last few nights and yesterday when I had to go to work and I was picking up my keys she gave me a really disappointed look and said ‘work’. I guess it’s just because I’ve left her overnight only once before (maybe about 9 months ago?) so she’s really not used to it. And I still just don’t want to, most of the time. So when I do, I end up with a little koala baby for a few days. And believe me, all those cuddles? They’re a real hardship.

So cute….yes, sometimes the whole cuteness thing does feel like a disease! Enjoy it now, because my almost-7th-grade-daughter will have nothing to do with cuteness!

    Koala baby…I love that!

Congrats on your jellybean! I put off shopping for baby clothes these last two pregnancies. It’s so exciting finding out the sex on baby’s birthday.

Thanks Darcel! Yeah I think getting a few basics and leaving the shopping until a bit later is probably the best way to go – although it does fly in the face of my compulsive planning streak ;-)

Neutrals are almost impossible. They’re all geared towards one or the other, even when they pretend to be sans gender. At least little babies spend most their time in onesies and receiving blankets. You can always get the better clothes a few weeks after you find out the sex :-)

Yeah that’s so true – there’s almost no such thing as gender neutral clothes. Even when I thought I ‘d bought Riley a whole heap of neutral clothes – I was surprised to find I’d actually bought quite a bit of blue ;-)

Wow, I can’t believe your are that organised already!

I did panic shopping for my son a week before he was born (was sure he was a girl) and my daughter didn’t get anything until after she was born (was sure she was a boy). I’m a terrible planner :)

By the way, my friend owns a gorgeous kids range, Gaia Organic Cotton, and has a beautiful range of neutrals. Btw, I love white on boys too.

    Enjoy the newborn shopping.

I love, love, love Gaia. Have only seen it when up in Byron. But it is beautiful.
