79/365 Princesses Don’t Die, They Just Go to Hell to Regroup

by admin on August 28, 2010

After three days of the princess/fairy costume I could see that this phase wasn’t going away anytime soon. If you can’t beat them, join them. So I went out and bought a second dress that Riley thought of as a ‘princess dress’, just for the sake of variety.

And I’m beginning to wonder about the kind of messages I give her during this phase. Overthinking? Quite possibly, that’s like my job. But I worry about describing princesses in a purely physical way ‘pretty’, or the idea that princesses only wear fancy dresses. So yesterday, after much, much cajoling, I convinced the little miss that Princesses do in fact wear pants and long-sleeved t-shirts, relying on the flower on the top and the ribbon on the pants to prove my point.

But beside my slightly neurotic fear of princesses and fairies, it is amazing to see her start to decide what she wants to wear. So grown up!

My girls went through an intense princess/fairy phase. Thankfully they always acknowledged that Mummy was a the Queen. Daddy took turns being the Prince, King and bad guy :D

Now the girls take turns with one being the princess and the other being the prince. They also spend a lot of time being cats and crawling around on the floor meowing. Very cute :D

You need to get hold of a book called “Princess Smartypants” by Babette Cole (I think!) She’s a thoroughly suitable Princess!

Now that sounds like my kind of book!

My girls are obsesssed with dressing up as princesses at the moment, too. As far as they’re concerned a princess wears a pretty dress and dances around everywhere!

The first of many phases I’m sure ;-) At the moment it’s just babies and princesses, although she never pretends to be a baby for very long!
