No Such Thing as Teething

by Zoey @ Good Googs on August 10, 2009

I challenge any of the fruit cakes who insist that teething is a figment of parents’ imaginations to spend a day (and night) with my 16 month old whose 1 year molars are currently pushing through. Yes I’m talking about you Robin Barker (Baby Love).

While it is important not to attribute everything to teething – a serious illness/infection can easily be missed that way – some things are most definitely teething: rosy cheeks, general distress particularly in the afternoons, frequent night waking, lack of appetite and even vomiting, yes vomiting. The last one is an unpopular teething symptom. But I can say with certainty that in our case it is not an infection/flu/something she ate.

I’m hoping that by the time I have to go into work next week this bout of teething will be over and my jolly little googer will be back to herself again. I felt so awful when DH told me she was inconsolable when she was awake in the afternoon until I got home.

Now my only quest is odour removal . . .

I had that very same issue with Baby Love. I understood why she was cranky that other more serious issues might be overlooked in the name of “teething” but to discount it all together?

When was the last time she had an ulcer or a mouth cut or sore gums? It’s painful!

I know – it seems a little far fetched particularly if you think about the kind of pain that adults go through with their wisdom teeth.

OH god I’m so not looking forward to the molars. Alexa is having enough issues with her first little front teeth!

The first ones are the worst – Riley was inconsolable with the first ones at least now even when she’s having a hard time with the molars she’s much more able to communicate what she needs.
