I admit it, I’m one of those people who always says “I should back up my data, but . . .”, or “what could possibly happen . . .” and well it happened. Nothing is backed up. Backing up is just one of those things – you don’t need it until you absolutely do. What did I lose? Alot of things that I don’t really care about – old e-mails, spreadsheets, music and the one thing that I really do care about – over 1,700 photos of my 15 month old daughter.
I think it’s retrievable – so after a bunch of phone calls to call centres and thanks to the 3 year warranty I bought on my computer I find out that it is still covered. However, not for data recovery. If I could I would have reached down through the phone and wrung a neck or two. Any idiot can reformat a hard drive – I don’t need a warranty for that. What I need is my photos back – not someone holding my hand as I delete memories.
So off I will go this weekend to find if my files are easy to retrieve or not. At least I have a scaled down copy of my photos on my ipod touch or I would be a complete mess – so even if I get none of it back there is at least something that I still have. Regardless of what happens the first thing I do when I get my computer back is to attach an external hard-drive and attempt to avoid such random acts of idiocy in the future. But now I just wish it had never even happened.
My name is Zoey.
