299/365 Hopping Off The Treat Train

I’ve noticed lately that 99.9% of all tantrums are either treat or TV related. So I’ve opted to severely limit both of them, as evidenced by this picture. Ok, severely limit might be overstating. But definitely not during the week for treats. And TV only for my morning shower time and about an hour in the afternoon. I’m a monster. Also I think I might be a monster who doesn’t understand the concept of ‘severely limit’. But I’m working my way up to it.

we noticed when Nick watched TV in the morning he was a nightmare to get off to kindy. So no more morning TV, and he’s been great. People who say it doesn’t make a difference have obviously never experimented!

Limiting is very complex specially if it is something they are already used to. Why do you not instead just give it a fixed time everyday? For example my twins know that after lunch, there is tv time and when tv time is finished (about 30-40minutes), we drink something and take a sweet. As they know when it is coming, they do not nag the rest of the day.

He gets TV after school. just not in the morning, as it becomes a nightmare to get him to leave the house because all he wants to do is stay home and watch it all day.

“I might be a monster who doesn’t understand the concept of ‘severely limit’”. LOLOLOL. I like that :-)

I’ve cut back on TV here too. Not on treats, so much.

I had the same epiphany the other day too! Definitely the cause for most tantys in this house. We’ve also been using rewards recently (little dollar shop toys and the like) so keep having tantrums for ‘more presents’. Urgh!

I think your approach sounds good!!  To severe is not good for anything :)
