Elmo, Monkeys and iPads

Sometimes the funniest thing in the world is an Aunty pretending that Elmo is a monkey and swinging him around on the jungle gym. The Aunt in question also brought over an iPad. Riley’s uptake of technology is truly terrifying. I can only imagine the amount of new things I will have to learn just [...]

Another Month, Another Cycle

Month number seven. Seven cycles. And coming to the end of my favourite period of the month. The few weeks where I’m not thinking about symptoms. I try not to think about if of course, but that’s kind of seems like wishing the sun wouldn’t come up in the morning. So all I can really [...]

Organise Your Life – 15 Minutes at a Time

Today I’m interviewing Amber of Re-Organizing Mom. Amber is a beautiful friend and if you’re not already following her on twitter, you really should. She also writes at Unlikely Mama and has graciously agreed to be my official Blogher correspondent, given that so far no one has offered to sponsor my trip from Australia to [...]

Write the Book

I always felt that my dream was to write a book. I read a review once of a science fiction book. And while that is not a genre that I enjoy at all, what the reviewer had written has stayed with me ever since. They wrote ‘[the author] has re-wired science fiction. Everything is different now.’ And I knew when I read it, that I wanted to do something like that. Something so creative, so unique that it stands completely on its own. It’s hard to even write that, because that dream seems so completely unlikely and unrealistic.

Homeschooling – Education vs Indoctrination

I can definitely understand some of the benefits of homeschooling, particularly in terms of all the wasted time that traditional schooling entails. And even beyond that, the traditional school environment is not suited to everyone, is inside and more dogmatic than experiential. But I also see it’s limitations. And mine.

The Toddler and the Age of No

We have arrived. The age of ‘no’ is upon us. I knew it was only a matter of time. Riley is far too persistent and too stubborn for it to pass us by, no matter how easy going she is. I won’t lie. It’s not particularly pleasant. There is defiance, there is even hitting. And [...]

The Wordy One

I’m usually all about the wordiness. The more the better. But sometimes, you just need to say it on a post it. filed in

Puddle Jumping

I don’t know what I enjoy more. Watching Riley’s excitement jumping through puddles, or listening to her lisp when she says puddles. Both are so freaking cute I squeel a little inside. Meanwhile, all this rain and all this puddle jumping, is doing absolutely nothing for my laundry situation. I don’t own a dryer so [...]

Just Get Angry – The Mummy Right

I was on facebook this evening and into my feed popped a new piece of information about panadol and immunisation thanks to Be a Fun Mum Which was interesting I thought. Because various GPs and nurses had often recommended to me that I give Riley panadol BEFORE her shots. And for the record, my mum [...]

Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Sometimes worries take over and there is nothing else. I retreat from living and spend time alone with my troublesome worries. Even more troublesome is the fact that each individual worry is really nothing, nothing worth worrying about anyway, but they take over pretty quickly anyway. I don’t write or blog or laugh or enjoy [...]
